Issac Newton was born 1642, England. His father died three months before his birth. His mother remarried when Issac was three years old, and she left Issac with his grandparents. He grew up alone. Later he went to Cambridge University, however, in 1665-67 he left Cambridge because of the Great Plague. Legend has it that Newton got his inspiration for gravity during this period. He saw an apple fall from a tree on his farm, which lead him to ask why the apple fell straight down, rather than sideways or even upward. He showed that the force that makes the apple fall and that holds us on the ground is the same as the force that keeps the moon and planets in their orbits. Which lead to the theory of gravity, which I turn helped to explain the movement of the planets and the sun. He is quoted as saying “if I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.
In 1727, at the age of 84, Sir Isaac Newton died in his sleep and was buried with pomp and ceremony in Westminster Abbey in London.
