Frida Kahlo aged two in 1909 lived in a small town on the outskirts of Mexico City, with her parents and sisters.
The Mexican Revolution began in 1910 (as a struggle against dictatorship and inequality) Frida witnessed ongoing civil strife, and gunfire echoing in the streets of her hometown, which was
extremely poor.
Throughout these years Frida Kahlo witnessed violent armed struggles in the streets of Mexico City as the Revolution continued for a decade, it was the first major political, social and cultural revolution of the 20th century. More than a million people died during these tender years of Frida Kahlo's childhood. Many young people live in very poor conditions, even today the education arrives last and is the poorest in every aspect, funding, materials and teachers, which mean inequality is perpetuated. Most children are still living with desperately difficult circumstances. The revolt was a failure.
